The Controller serves as the senior accounting officer for Baton Rouge Community College. Areas of oversight includes but are not limited to accounting and integrity of the general ledger, interim and annual financial reporting, sponsored (grant) related activities, restricted funds, student accounts receivables, and the development and maintenance of sound internal control systems over financial operations and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities: 40%
Oversee and supervises the functions relating to the accounting operations of the college including the student accounts receivables and collections (bursar’s office), restricted funds and travel accounting, general ledger and payroll, and accounts payable departments.

Reviews accounting transactions that are posted on the college’s general ledger on a timely and periodic basis.

Analyze accounts having unusual balances and audit those accounts to verify information is accurate and/or has been or will be resolved in a timely fashion. Review information from external systems that feed into the ledgers to ensure those transactions are recorded to the correct

Works in conjunction with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance to develop policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of business office process by reviewing current procedures used by the office of accounting and finance departments.

Works in conjunction with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance to prepare the year end financial statements and works with Office of Accounting and Finance personnel to ensure books are closed out accurately and timely.

Review reconciliations submitted with accounting feeds to ensure information is complete and accurate.

Meet with department heads to discuss financial data and to resolved financial discrepancies. Make recommendations for improving department efficiency and provide a cost analysis of program when requested.

Participate on campus committees as required

Prepares training and professional development plans for the Office of Accounting and Finance Staff

Serves as one of the college’s primary liaisons with external auditors

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree: Accounting, Business, Management, and/or Finance
Required Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressively related experience in financial management and supervision.
Required Licenses or Certifications: CPA
Preferred Education: Master's of Accounting, Business Administration, and/or Finance
Preferred Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively related experience in financial management and supervision. Experience with the financial functions of an integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system within a higher education institution.
